God have sex with Mary?
Had an awesome time a small group tonight. We talked about Jesus' birth. I hate to say it, but the story seems almost too familiar. When I hear it, I've lost the awe and wonder that should just blow me away. We talked about some good stuff tonight though.
God intimately involved with humanity, did God have sex with Mary? I don't think so, but the imagery and language alludes to that or at least wants us to think in those terms.
God intrusting himself to mankind, making himself vulnerable as a helpless child.
God contrasting his Kingdom with others like Rome. The "Pax Romana" Roman peace through war and forcible submission. Versus the peace of God brought through love and servanthood.
Great stuff.

It is a strange thought of God having sex with a human. There are more questions than answers (makes it even more cool!).
For Mary something physical took place at some point. Intercourse? I think God honored Mary's body and human experience so that it didn't make her latter love life with Joseph strange - enough way out of the ordinary things going on for this couple! (God is definately bigger than Joe know what I mean?!)
How did the biological Jesus begin? Fertilization? Zygote? The physical beginings of Jesus is fantastic and if we had it all figured out then it probably wouldn't be the integration of God into the Son of Man.
However it happened I am thankful.
I completely agree with you. I don't think sex, but I definitely see the overshadowing of Mary by the Holy spirit as some kind of physical/spiritual experience.
The wholly man, wholly God thing is way to awesome for me to grasp. But I think Jesus being wholly man must have involved some fertilization process with the egg of Mary.
God putting his DNA inside of Mary's egg. Can you say cloning? Whoa that's wierd.
Thanks for being my one and only reader. You made my day.
